About the course

Coronal polishing is a preventive dental procedure that focuses on removing plaque and extrinsic stains from the clinical crowns of the teeth—the visible surfaces above the gum line. At iEducations, we emphasize the importance of proper technique, safety, and patient comfort when performing this cosmetic procedure. While coronal polishing improves the appearance and smoothness of teeth, it is not a substitute for a full oral prophylaxis, which is required for the removal of subgingival calculus and treatment of periodontal conditions. The procedure is commonly performed using a slow-speed handpiece, rubber polishing cup, and an abrasive paste. Indications for coronal polishing include preparing the teeth for fluoride application, improving esthetics, or completing a dental cleaning. However, it should be avoided in cases of decalcified enamel, newly erupted teeth, or exposed root surfaces. Through the training provided at iEducations, students learn to perform coronal polishing with accuracy, professionalism, and adherence to infection control standards under appropriate supervision.
